The Curious Incident of The Dog In The Night-Time
Author: Mark Haddon
This book is the winner of the whitbread book of the year.
The book talks about the life of a boy, Christopher. The book is somewhat like a diary. Christopher is a very interesting guy and has Asperger's Syndrome. He doesn't like people to touch him, has a pet rat, is afraid of strangers and hates yellow. Chapters in books are usually given in cardinal numbers 1,2,3,4 and so on but he has decided to give his chapter prime numbers 2,3,5,7 and so on, as he likes prime numbers.
The story starts off with Christopher discovering that his neighbour's dog, Wellington, had been killed with a garden fork. Christopher liked dogs so he was determined to find out who killed Wellington. The story isn't mostly about who killed Wellington, you'll see.
Christopher lives with his father and his father told him his mother has died. According to Christopher, seeing 4 red cars in a row made it a
good day, 3 red cars in a row made it a
Quite Good Day, and 5 cars in a row made it a
Super Good Day. However, 4 yellow cars in a row made it a
Black Day. Christopher goes to a school for children with special needs.
Christopher finds out that his mother is actually not dead!! His father has been keeping letters from Christopher's mother which were meant for Christopher. His mother now lives in London with Mr Shears, who is, well was the owner of Wellington too.
Upon finding out who killed Wellington, Christopher runs away from home and embarks on a journey to get to London on his own.
Toby, Christopher's pet rat dies!!!
Will he make it to London? Who killed Wellington? What will happen to Christopher? What happened to Toby? How will the story end? You'll just have to read the book and find out!
My thoughts:
I like this book a lot and I wish it never ended. Once you start reading it, you'll never want to put it down. It is a very remarkable and rewarding read and everyone should have to read it! Hope you do!
