Last Book Review

I'll probably stop with the book reviews. So, here is my last one. I've recently finished reading a novel "This Is Where I Leave You". It's about a family getting back together for their father's funeral and all that happens in that one week.

The main character is Judd, who has an elder brother, Paul, a sister called Wendy and a younger brother, Philip. Judd and Paul are married to Jen and Alice respectively, while Philip is dating a lady named Tracy. The family is getting back together because their father has passed away, and they are made to sit shiva, as their father's last wish. So, for the next one week, they will eat,sleep and live together with one another.

Judd returns home one day only to find out that his wife, Jen, is having an affair with his boss named Wade. Judd is shattered as he heads to join his family for the week. Jen has been having an affair with Wade for a little over a year now. Judd talks about how marriage could ruin one's life and how he was affected by this. His family helps to comfort him, at the same time surprised that Jen would do such a thing. Jen tells Judd that she is pregnant, but the baby actually belongs to Judd. Judd doesn't know if he should continue life with Jen. During the week, he meets a former school-mate who is around his age, and still single called Penny. They have feelings for each other and this leaves Judd in dilemma. Penny is aware of Judd's situation, except the baby.

Philip and Judd don't get along very well so there are fights that go on and other heartbreaking and interesting things that take place. This one week change all their lives completely. In the end, they all change and get along really well. They love one another a lot and now can't bare to have to leave. Their mother reveals that sitting shiva was not actually his father's last wish, but she just wanted to get her children all back together. The children one week ago might have been furious with her but they actually forgive her.

It's finally time for Judd to leave. At this time he has told Penny about the baby and they make a promise that if they both are not happily settled by the time they are 40, they would tie the knot together. Whether or not Judd returns to Jen is a mystery, as the story leaves us to wonder.

MY THOUGHTS:
I thought this was a really interesting book. It's a really thick book so I took quite awhile to read it. It's like taking a jorney into the life of Judd Foxman for a week, probably the week of his life. The author was fantastic at bringing humour into the book. It is full of funny jokes. It's a rather sad ending that they all leave one another after the week. Judd is in quite a tough situation so I hope he figures things out. This book makes me feel like Judd is alive and the story hasn't ended. Definitely a good read but I might have been a little too young to read this book...

Hope you like my 7th and final book review, that is until the end of the exams. I'll be starting on a book "No and Me" and during the holidays I'll be reading an award winning book titled " The Corrections". Can't Wait. Until then, it's goodbye!

New Playlist

Haven't been blogging for quite awhile. Been rather busy and maybe lazy.
Anyway, i added some new songs to my playlist.

First, it's Count On Me by Bruno Mars. It's a track on his upcoming album, Doo-Wops and Hooligans, due for release on October 5th. Bruno Mars has a really angelic voice and Count On Me is really catchy. Personally, i like the lyrics used. It's not a very loud or noisy song, ideal for when you're doing your work.
Next, we have Rhythm Of Love by a band called Plain White T's. Plain White T's is best known for the love song "Hey There Delilah". Rhythm Of Love is a single from their yet to be released album,"Wonders Of The Younger".Rhythm Of Love is a light and relaxing song, with a pretty simple yet catchy tune. It's brilliantly sung and somehow just cheers you up. It's the kind of song one would sway their head to, and maybe even fall asleep to...

Lastly, we have a track titled " Just A Dream", by hip-hop recording artist Nelly. I'm not really into hip-hop, but this particular song seems to be stuck in my head. It's more of a sad song, which you can probably tell from the starting already. It's about losing the one you love, picturing your future with her together, only to realise it's all just a dream. You remember that she's left you, so you no longer have a future together with her. Really sad indeed :(

Check them out! Feel free to comment!

Book Review 6

Title: The Perks Of Being A Wallflower
Author: Stephen Chbosky

This has to be the best book I ever read. This is quite an old book, published somewhere in the year 2000. It was recommended by Jeffery Lightfoot, Singapore U-15 soccer team captain. This book is about a boy who does not want people to know his name. You will, however, find out his name. He is Charlie. Charlie is a really shy and has no friends at school. He has a brother and a sister who he isn't really close to.

Charlie makes friends with Sam and Patrick, who are siblings. Sam and Patrick treat him very well although they are seniors. They bring him to parties and introduce him to their friends. Charlie has a huge crush on Sam. She knows it but she feels that Charlie is too young for her.

The book goes on to tell us how the rest of the year went and all those unforgettable moments. At the end of the year, all of Charlie's friends have to move on to college, leaving Charlie with no friends once again. Charlie misses them all so much, especially Sam. Charlie and his sister have became really close after Charlie helped her in keeping her pregnancy a secret.

My thoughts:
This is a really good book, especially as I can relate to it a lot. There are many touching and heartbreaking moments as well as those times where they feel infinite. It's like the kind of thing where you can play a song to as you read on and things fit perfectly. I finished the book in a week, it was absolutely great. I am really grateful to Jeffery Lightfoot without which I would not have been able to have read such a book and I recommend it to everyone who ever had that feeling that they didn't belong somewhere or when things just kept becoming worse. I wished the book didn't have to end so fast. I must say that I really connected with the book and I can't think of any way else to describe it. Just read it, please.

The End Of The Youth Olympic Games

Yesterday saw the first ever Youth Olympic Games held here in Singapore finally come to a close. During the 12 days of competition, there were definitely many moments to remember. My favourite moment of the games was the journey of the Cubs, who clinched the bronze medal. They played exceptionally well and lived up to expectations.

In the bronze medal match, Singapore captain Jeffery Lightfoot suffered a cut to his head and had to be taken to the hospital. I was really sad and sympathized with Jeffery because it was his final match representing Singapore as a youth and it had to end with an injury. Fortunately, he managed to return to the Stadium to receieve his bronze medal. By the way, I'm currently reading the book he recommended me so I'll be reviewing it soon! Check back in a week or so!

There are definitely many promising young sportsmen all around the world and I think Singapore is not that far behind. It was absolutely delighting to be able to catch the athletes compete in our own country and I'm really sad that it has to end so fast. I am really proud that my country could host the world's first YOG and I hope that we get to host another huge event like this. The world saw what we had to offer and I certainly hope they are impressed.

Feel free to leave any comments on the YOG!

It's finally time to say goodbye!

Book Review #5

Title: The Wednesday Letters
Author: Jason F. Wright

This has to be one of the best, if not the best story of its kind. The Wednesday Letters is more of a romance type of story but with a little horror and comedy as well. This story is basically about Samantha, Matthew and Malcolm, children of Jack and Laurel. Samantha is a cop, Matthew is the oldest while Malcolm is rather violent and has a criminal record. Matthew is married to Monica, Samantha has a passion for acting and Malcolm loves a girl named Rain, who is together with Nathan, about to get engaged.

One night, Jack and Laurel both passed away. Malcolm, Matthew and Samantha are all shocked. Jack and Laurel were very nice people and Jack did suffer from some health problems. The story goes on and the children find some letters. They were actually letters written to Laurel on Wednesdays from Jack. Jack would write to Laurel about anything.

From the letters, they discover a lot about their parents, some things they did not know about. In one letter, they discover that Laurel was raped one night. This meant that Malcolm was not the biological son of Jack. Malcolm is devastated and wants to find out who is real dad is.

One night, Nathan comes to offer Malcolm a huge sum of money so that Malcolm will leave the valley for another country, leaving Rain with Nathan or else Nathan would report him and get him in jail with evidence Nathan had.

Malcolm would eventually discover his real father in a rather unusual way and live to tell the story. He did not feel like he belonged at first but as he grew, he understood that Jack loved him and regarded Jack as his father. In the end, Malcolm gets what he wants. What do you think he wants?

My thoughts:
I think this is a fantastic book suitable for all types of readers. It is sad yet heartwarming and brilliantly written. I personally like the suspense the author leaves us with at the end of chapters, making us want to read on and on. Oh, and there's a huge surprise letter for you at the end of the book! One of the best books I've read for sure!

Playlist

Just a short post. I've updated my playlist. Well, I actually just added 2 songs.

First up, it's a track called "Perfect" by Hedley. You may know them for their single,"Old School". "Perfect" is a rather sad song. I first heard it on radio and I really like it. The only thing I didn't really like was the chorus. I wish Jacob,the lead singer, didn't go high so often. Other than that, I think it's a great song, so check it out.

Rating:

Next, it's a little something called " Mine" by Taylor Swift. Her new album " Speak Now" will be out later this year so watch out for it! "Mine" is a really catchy and pretty song and just makes you feel like "Speak Now" just has to be another awesome Taylor Swift album. Totally love it, it's stuck in my head.

BPL 2010/11

The new BPL season is just one day away! I will be covering a little on Liverpool, my club.

Liverpool go into the new season with many new signings. Last season was disappointing and once again it will be a tough fight among the elite of England. I believe as many as 6 teams are capable of challenging for the top 4 spots. They are : Liverpool(of course), Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City, Tottenham and last and definitely least, Manchester United(boo!!!).

I am super excited for the new season, especially with Pool's new signings!! Here they are:

In: Danny Wilson
Jonjo Shelvey
Milan Jovanovic(Woohoo!)
Joe Cole(Can it get any better?)
Christen Poulsen(Just in!)
Alexander Hleb!!(Possible)
Emilio Insua(Negotiations failed with Fiorentina)
Fabio Aurelio(He's back!)
Brad Jones
Out: Benayoun(Chelsea)
Degen(Loan;Stuttgart)
Mascherano(Barcelona/Inter)

Liverpool took to sell Mascherano to Barcelona in a cash+player deal. Barcelona will pay around $15m and will give us Alexander Hleb, the former Arsenal midfielder.

It's going to be a tough battle to fight for a place in the first 11 with so many signings, especially the midfield. Lucas,Aquilani,Poulsen,Gerrard,Kuyt,Cole,Maxi,Babel,Shelvey and Spearing. WOW! I am looking forward to seeing Jovanovic up front with Torres. Oh yeah, Torres and Gerrard are staying! Liverpool are still looking for a English striker to add to their squad, following the new rule. Tottenham has demanded $15m for Peter Crouch while West Ham wants $20m for Carlton Cole...

The one problem I have is MioTV. This season's matches are screened on MioTV by Singtel and therefore my family will have to get it installed. The bad thing is that it needs to be connected to a phone line. There isn't one behind my telly. This means there'll be lots of wires. This means it will be ugly! Hope I do eventually get to watch the BPL. Try harder Starhub!

I wish Liverpool the best of luck this season and hope to see them win trophies! Anyone has feedback on MioTV please leave a comment! Thanks!

National Day

Hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend! Us students still have one day off tomorrow :)
The National Day Parade was fine, not very entertaining. I wished there was Singapore Idol rather than OMG... I'll just have to wait another year i guess.

I know it's kinda late right now, but from the whole crew of Kevyn Says(it's just me,really)Happy National Day!

Stuff

How's everyone doing? I haven't been posting lately. Just finished 2 tests today, free for the week! Can't wait for the long weekend.

Friday will be National Day celebrations and school is expected to end at 10.30. I'll probably be going back to my primary school for the 1st time. It's also CCA Appreciation Day. I'm not too sure what that means.

I just watched Despicable Me about one week ago. It was a great movie, heartwarming too. I also saw the iPhone 4 while I was out. It's not as glam as it looks on the Apple website but the price plans are rather reasonable. In fact, they are similar to, if not cheaper than what I paid.

1)Secondhand Serenade's album "Hear Me Now" is out!!! Everyone go get a copy of it. I'm getting mine during the weekend if possible.

2) I've added 1 song to my playlist. It's a legit track by Bruno Mars, titled " Just The Way You Are". I love it.

3) And, my dad will be back on friday. Looking forward to spending the weekend with him.

Hope to blog again soon!

New Playlist

How's everyone doing? I just can't wait for the weekends to come... Just so you know, I've edited my playlist, adding new tracks to it. (YAY!)

Firstly, it's David Archuleta's new single, Something Bout Love, which has such a catchy chorus. I have also added a cover of Taio Cruz's smashing hit, "Dynamite", by Alex Goot. Alex Goot has an amazing voice and is very talented. He is a one man band as you will see in the video, playing the guitar, piano, drums and more.

Also added is " So Big", by Iyaz, who sang the hits " Replay" and "Solo". Persoally, I love the song " The Hardest Thing" by Tyler Ward a lot. It's a really heartwarming and beautiful song. It plays right after "So Big".

Hope you like the new songs! Feel free to suggest some songs you think I should add. Looking forward to reading your comments

Book Review 4

Title: The Last Ivisible Boy
Author: Evan Kuhlman
I came across this book in a bookshop. It had an interesting cover and title so I decided to buy it and read it. It has received good comments from authors, most noticably Jeff Kinney, the author of Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

Yes, this is a diary as well. A diary of a boy named Findlay Abner Garrett but I'll be just calling him Finn. Finn has a younger brother named Derek and is not just any normal kid at school. Oh, and he has a girlfriend called Melanie.

Somewhere after the start of the story, Finn shares with us that his father had passed away and how much Finn and the whole family missed him. It was a huge tragedy and Finn was devastated. From then on, Finn turned whiter and paler day by day as he shares with us stories and his daily activities.

Finn wants to return to the black haired boy he used to be. He thinks that him turning white has something to do with his father's death. Will there be a happy ever after? You'll have to find out for yourself!

Personally, I think this is a rather sad story. I feel very sorry for Finn. This is one of those stories that will stay with me for a long long time. One point is that the story doesn't really suit the title.

This book is available at most reliable bookshops at $9.90 and looks like this:

World Cup Finals AND MORE

So, the finals will take place in around 4 1/2 hours between Spain and Holland. Paul and Mani disagree with each other's predictions, it's going to be a hell of a match and Spain is going to win. I'm hoping we don't go to penalties so i get an extra hour of sleep.

School starts at 9 tomorrow! How good is that? No reading period nor flag raising. School ends 1 hour later as such. I'm going to get some sleep and will wake up at 2.29am. I woud like to take this opportunity to thank Channel 5 for broadcasting the finals.

I'm on the verge of finishing reading another book, The Last Invincible Boy, and I'll review it soon. So far so good. Will post again soon!

New Album

Secondhand Serenade is back with their 3rd studio album, Hear Me Now, which hits stores on August 3. Their first single, Something More, is now available on iTunes for download. You can now pre-order your copy of "Hear Me Now" in iTunes! I will be adding Something More to my playlist so do check it out!

Hear Me Now official track-listing:

1. Distance
2. Something More
3. Stay Away
4. You And I
5. Is Anybody Out There
6. Reach For The Sky
7. Only Hope
8. So Long
9. World Turns
10. Nightmares
11. Hear Me Now

My opinion:
I can't wait for Hear Me Now to be released. Something More is bound to be a hit. With their huge hit, "Fall For You", Secondhand Serenade's popularity has increased over the years. John Vesely has gone a little from acoustic to pop in some songs. Although I do prefer his older work, the new songs are pretty sick too. Definitely worth checking out!

Book Review 3

Title: David Copperfield
Author: Charles Dickens

This book is something like a life journal where David shares with readers events that took place in his life. The story starts off with David's birth and the author goes on to introduce some characters. David's father is dead and he stays with his mother and Pegotty, their maid.

David's mother brings home a man who would eventually he David's new father. His name is Mr Murdstone. He does not treat David well and sometimes canes David. David is sent to boarding school. David finds out he now has a younger brother but soon his younger brother dies. More unfortunate incidents occur as David finds out that his mother had died as well!

David is left in Mr Murdstone's care. Mr Murdstone first sacks Pegotty and then remarries. David is coldly neglected and he finally decides to run away from home, and goes to Miss Betsey for help.

Eventually, Miss Betsey lets David stay and David is delighted. The story then goes on with David going around visiting relatives.

David meets the love of his life, Dora and when he turned 21, they got married.
After some time, Dora passes away and David is shattered!

Will David be able to live life without his dear wife? What does his future have in store for him? You'll just have to read on to find out!

My thoughts:
This is quite an inspiring story. It's a good read, but I won't say it's one of the best books i have read. It's not an exciting book that keeps you glued but i guess it's ok

Book Review 2

This is a book review for a classic story.

Title: 20,000 Legues Under The Sea
Author: Jules Verue

The story starts off with reports that an extraordinary sea creature has been seen destorying boats and ships at different oceans. The creature could move from one place to another within a very short period of time.

The United States government decides to take measures to get rid of the terrible "thing". A rapid sailing warship was outfitted with every known weapon to track down and put an end to the creature.

Embarking on this journey were Professor Aronnax, his faithful servant, Conseil, as well as Ned Land. After spending 3 months cruising in the North Pacific, they came to nothing and gave up, and decided to return home.

Just as they were heading back, Professor Aronnax heard Ned shout, " There it is!" Conmmander Farragut reversed the engines and the ship started moving away from the light. The strange glowing animal rushed towards them. Their cannons began firing but instead of exploding, they just bounced off the creature's nack and splashed into the sea. Before Professor Aronnax knew,he found himself on dry land together with Conseil and Ned. Their ship was badly damaged and had left without them.

"Where am I?" asked Professor Aronnax. He sat up and looked around and found out he was on top of a creature! He pressed his hand against its skin. The skin was smooth, polished black steel! This was not a creature, it was a submarine! Not long after, two men appeared. They wore otter-skin caps, sealskin boots and loose-hanging clothes. The captain looked at them carefully for mintues without saying a word. The three guys tried to explain who they were but the captain did not reply. After minutes of silence, the ccaptain called down the hatch and eight crewmen rushed up on deck. They led Ned and the others down an iron ladder, into complete darkness.

The three of them would eventually embark on a remarkable journey with the captain and experience some terrifying moments. The captain was mysterious and kept secrets from them. The three guys eventually wish to escape. Will they make it out alive?

My thoughts:
I think this is a very interesting book. It is a little of a mystery and talks about a remarkable journey across the world. What Professor Aronnax gets to experience is truly amazing. Definitely a great classic which anyone of any age will enjoy!

World Cup 2010

So, the World Cup has started not too long ago and I'm pretty sure that everyone is excited about it. The World Cup takes place every four years and this year, teams like Spain, Brazil, Netherlands and Germany look to win the World Cup.

The germans are in great form, with a recent 4-0 demolition of Australia and not to mention they trashed the South Tyrol U-20 juniors 24-0!!!

Netherlands are not bad either, with lots of quality players on their side. Italy will most definitely not retain the World Cup with an aging squad. Brazil will probably reach the semi finals. England don't look too good and I tink they'll only make it as far as the quarter finals.

The jabulani has come under much criticism from goalkeepers and has seen Robert Green of England make a silly mistake. How will it affect the results of games?

I hope Spain will win the World Cup. With a good squad and in good form, they start off their campaign against Switzerland. There should be no problems for Spain and hopefully Iniesta and Torres get back to full fitness soon.

Book Review 1

The Curious Incident of The Dog In The Night-Time
Author: Mark Haddon

This book is the winner of the whitbread book of the year.

The book talks about the life of a boy, Christopher. The book is somewhat like a diary. Christopher is a very interesting guy and has Asperger's Syndrome. He doesn't like people to touch him, has a pet rat, is afraid of strangers and hates yellow. Chapters in books are usually given in cardinal numbers 1,2,3,4 and so on but he has decided to give his chapter prime numbers 2,3,5,7 and so on, as he likes prime numbers.

The story starts off with Christopher discovering that his neighbour's dog, Wellington, had been killed with a garden fork. Christopher liked dogs so he was determined to find out who killed Wellington. The story isn't mostly about who killed Wellington, you'll see.

Christopher lives with his father and his father told him his mother has died. According to Christopher, seeing 4 red cars in a row made it a good day, 3 red cars in a row made it a Quite Good Day, and 5 cars in a row made it a Super Good Day. However, 4 yellow cars in a row made it a Black Day. Christopher goes to a school for children with special needs.

Christopher finds out that his mother is actually not dead!! His father has been keeping letters from Christopher's mother which were meant for Christopher. His mother now lives in London with Mr Shears, who is, well was the owner of Wellington too.

Upon finding out who killed Wellington, Christopher runs away from home and embarks on a journey to get to London on his own.

Toby, Christopher's pet rat dies!!!

Will he make it to London? Who killed Wellington? What will happen to Christopher? What happened to Toby? How will the story end? You'll just have to read the book and find out!

My thoughts:

I like this book a lot and I wish it never ended. Once you start reading it, you'll never want to put it down. It is a very remarkable and rewarding read and everyone should have to read it! Hope you do!

My Poem for Home Learning

I thought I knew,
This just doesn't feel right,
Without You

I tried so hard,
I miss that voice.
Should I erase these memories from my heart?
The times we enjoyed

All the good times we had,
are gone just like that
Just like a beginning,
coming to an end

I didn't know
that I would miss it this much.
As we grow old,
I hope it remains as such

I hope to see you and your face again,
but you can't pull the brakes on a runaway train

So I guess this is goodbye,
from the times i ever said Hi

(Missing my primary school life)

Home Learning- Poem Analysis

The poem is all over the place, with all sorts of different things happening. From the poem, we can see that the poet did not enjoy his school days much. He was quite frustrated, finding it hard to keep his shoes white, the fact that crows tried to interrupt them when they sang the National Anthem and when they took a photograph of him with his eyes closed.
The poet always had the impression that the scouts were hardworking and special. The poet was probably happy and laughed when he recalled that his best friend shaded all A's for their Chinese Paper. The poet has memories of Chinese New Year celebrations as well.

I think given a choice, the poet would choose not to return to school.

Mother's Day

How did you spend your Mother's Day. I woke up to a sunny Sunday morning, headed for soccer training from 8-10 before having my lunch with my mum. To tell you the truth, I wasn't quite sure if it was Mother's Day. Then I heard the radio talking about Mother's Day and i was like oh Shoot! Luckily, my sister got it covered. She had a card and I wrote a short note to my mum. Sorry mum, I'll make sure next year's Mother's day is extra special for you. :)

Problem with Blogger

Whenever i post, I am unable to add a link, a video nor an image. Is anyone having the same problems? Does anyone know the solution to this problem?

I would love to know how to fix the problem. Thanks for taking notice!

How I Spent My Birthday

I turned 13 on the 22nd of April, which was also Earth Day. The day started off well. I received many birthday wishes from my friends and family. When i was in class, I found out it was Bram's birthday too. Haha! I must say he got a better card than I did, but it's the thought that counts anyway. We had a Math Test which was difficult. Fortunately, I was determined not to let it spoil my day, which comes just once in 365 days. I did receieve presents too! In the morning, I was told I had won the Jigsaw puzzle competition that i took part with Wei Jin.

That night, I had steamboat for dinner. My brother and sister both came back for dinner and it was delicious! If only my father was in Singapore to enjoy these moments with me. I do hope he comes back to Singapore more often and we get to visit him too. After dinner, i cut the cake my mum had bought for me earlier. It was a chocolate cake and it was not bad at all.

As we did not have much homework that day, I could turn in early. It was a great day for me and I would like to thank everyone for making it possible. :D

I am unable to upload any images, but here is a link to what my sister got me : http://www.oipolloi.com/oipolloi/gfx-items/11662-1-900.jpg

It's a cool shirt from Fred Perry. Awesome stuff.

C Boys Badminton

After being crowned champions in the west zone, we went into the Nationals with confidence. Our group for the 1st round was rather easy compared to the rest. I played against ngee ann but unfortunately lost quite badly. :P

Vs Ngee Ann 3-2

Vs Ang Mo Kio 3-2

Vs Woodlands Ring 5-0

We were first in our group and proceeded to the top 8 schools in Singapore. We prayed for a good group but did not get what we wanted. I played against ACS(I) but lost once again, this time to their best singles player 8-21 8-21.

Vs RI 0-5

Vs Nanhua 3-2

Vs ACS(I) 1-4

We played ACS(I) on Wednesday, the same day we were supposed to cheer on the track and field team. It was an important match as should we have won ACS(I), would have gotten to the Top 4 and get a trophy/ medal!

I will continue to train hard and hopefully next year we will go further.

Track And Field Finals

The track and field finals past not too long ago and the B boys and the C boys came in 1st! Certain Sec 1 classes had to go down to Choa Chu Kang Stadium to cheer the school on. I would have loved to go down to support the track and field team, but because I had to go for badminton competition, i had to miss it. I hope we will continue to impress in the upcoming years.

I will talk more about badminton in my next post. :)

EZ link cards

So, we were supposed to get our Secondary School ez link cards already. Unfortunately for me, my card came with the wrong picture for the 2nd year in a row!!! My card had the picture of a former classmate. Fortunately, the staff in Hwa Chong will help me solve the problem and contact me when my card is ready. Sigh...

Why are the people who do this so careless? It was brought me a great deal of inconvinience...

How hard can it be??

1) Take a picture of us

2) Save it in their computers

3) Get the cards ready

4) Transfer the particulars and pictures onto the card

And that's pretty much it...

Bleh!

School

How's everyone doing? Sorry that I haven't been blogging for awhile. :P

So, it's almost the end of Term 1 already! This coming week is sabbatical week. On Monday and Tuesday, the Sec 1s will be having research studies. And from Wednesday to Friday, we're going our Sec 1 camp. Hope everyone's excited! It's a great opportunity for us to get to know one another more.

After sabbatical week, it's the March holidays!! I hope everyone enjoys their 1 week of holidays. Try to finish up your work early and you won't needa worry about it.

Happy Holidays!!!

Home Learning Assignment

Before I start, I would like to wish fellow Hwa Chong -nians happy home learning!! We rarely get this opportunity to learn at home so let's make the best out of it!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My learning style is logical, but I am unable to find instructions on it. I have chosen to do interpersonal instead, which is my next highest learning style.
I have interviewed by mother and got her opinions on crime and punishment.
ME : What are some of your opinions on crime??
My Mum : Well, committing a crime is a serious offence. There are many types of crimes, such as stealing, cheating , murder and many more. There are serious consequences for people who commit crimes. Someone may commit a crime out of anger, desperation, desire or other reasons.
ME: (Nod my head)
ME: What are your views on punishment then?
My Mum:Punishment is about teaching offenders a lesson so that they do not repeat what they did in the future. Not everyone who commits a crime is punished and not everyone who is punished no longer commit a crime. Some people who commit crimes are left unpunished as they hide evidence from the authorities successfully. However, they will feel guilty deep down inside.
My Mum: It is important and vital that there is communication in a relationship. Without proper communication, the relationship will most probably turn out to be a failure. Communication is important in everything we do. A true relatiponship requires more than just communication though. It requires passion, commitment, care and much more. Both parties must not only communicate with each other but they must communicate well with each other. If not, there may be disagreements, resulting in arugments and fights.
ME: Thank you for your time!
Similarities Between Lamb To The Slaughter and The Way Up To Heaven
In both stories, the husbands treat their wives unfairly and their wives get their revenge, leaving both husbands eventually dead. In both stories, the wives get away with murder. Both stories talk about making the right decisions. Making wrong decisions may lead to you having to face consequences for your actions. The stories tell us to think twice before we act. We should also not take things for granted.
How's everyone doing? Busy with work? Feeling stressed out?Here are a few ways to relax. Hope they're useful to you!
1)Keep smiling and laughing. Laughter is the best medicine. Life is more than just work.
2) Chill out with some music
3)You could try a massage
4) Spend some time catching up with friends and family
5)Share your problems with them. They could suggest solutions to help you out.
6)Complete work that needs to be done as soon as possible. After that, you won't have to worry about it and the rest of the day is yours!
7)Go for a stroll in the park. Get some fresh air
8)Don't think about what makes you stressed. Just know that someday, somehow you will solve it!
So, tests have started in hwa chong and students are starting to get stressed. We've got our Math test back. There a a few failures as well as a few who did really well. I got 25/40. To get A1, we needed to get 30 or above. I hope 1o3 continues to work hard and do better in the future. For those who didn't do so well, cheer up, learn from your mistakes and keep improving. Review Of " Love " by Catherine Lim
Love is an interesting story with a rather sad ending. The story starts off with Frankie deeply in love with Pearl. Catherine Lim then goes on to describe how deeply in love he is. Next, the author writes about how Pearl is in love with Frankie, and how he is better then her previous boyfriends. But when Pearl sees Frankie's father and his condition, she starts to change her mind. She was worried it might affect their relationship and their children. She would also have to spend the rest of her life tending to him. She couldn't take it. That night, Pearl writes Frankie a letter and pleads for his forgiveness. After reading the letter, Frankie is heartbroken and says he can never love again. Pearl and Frankie still love each other but because of his father, they are separated and move on with their own lives,looking back at this with mixed feelings.
Apple launches the iPad
The iPad isn't a smart phone, neither is it a computer, but it's a combination of both. " So much more intimate than a laptop and so much more capable than an iPhone," Steve Jobs said. Weighing in at 1.5 pounds, the 9.7 inch touch screen looks much like the iPhone's big brother. The iPad comes in 16, 32 and 64 GB, starting at US$499. It has a battery life of 10 hours, with a month of standby. All the apps available in the app store will be available on the iPad too. The iPad looks to be a huge hit and who knows what Apple will come up with next? Only time will tell...
As we all know, Haiti has been hit by a massive 7.0 magnitude earthquake. It was horrifying to see how they were coping with it. Nobody wanted it to happen. Right now, the people in Haiti need as much help as they can get. A small amount of your money could go a long way in restoring their lives and would mean a lot to them. Play your part, donate now.
